How to Use This Guide
Whether you’re choosing for yourself or buying for her, this guide covers what’s worth knowing first: silver or gold, how the pieces differ, how to get her size right without asking, holiday delivery dates, and where to start. Jump to any section, or read straight through.

What Coin Jewelry Actually Is
Every piece in the Foundry begins as a genuine silver or gold coin: an actual Mercury Dime, Walking Liberty half dollar or American Gold Eagle, struck by a national mint and issued as real money.
Rings are forged by hand: heat and pressure applied a little at a time until the flat coin becomes a rounded band, with its portrait, lettering and date carried onto the finished ring. Earrings and pendants keep the coin’s face whole, gently domed or set in a frame of a second coin, so the design she sees is the one the mint struck. See the full process, coin to finished ring →
Silver or Gold
The first choice shapes everything after it.
Silver
Silver is the most natural place to start. The Walking Liberty, Mercury Dime and Victorian rupee were struck in 90% silver or finer, and they wear as everyday jewelry: easy with jeans, easy with a dress, the kind of piece she reaches for without thinking. Every silver piece is returnable within 60 days.
Gold
Gold is a different kind of gift. The quarter-ounce American Gold Eagle is solid 22-karat gold, with no plating and no low-karat alloy, slender enough for a woman’s hand and permanent in a way little else she owns will be. Because each gold ring is forged from a coin bought for her commission, gold is final sale.
One simple test: look at the jewelry she already wears. If she reaches for silver, white gold or platinum, silver will sit naturally beside it. If she wears yellow gold, gold will look like it was always part of her collection.

Finding Her Size
If you’re buying a ring as a surprise, her size is probably the one thing you don’t know. That’s expected, and the Foundry is set up for it.
For the gift-buyer
Buying it as a gift
Make your best guess. If it doesn’t fit, send it back and we’ll resize it free, as many times as it takes, for as long as she owns it. A wrong guess costs you a few days, nothing more.
Or skip the question entirely. The Mercury Dime earrings and the Bullseye pendant need no size at all.
For yourself
Buying for yourself
One myth worth clearing up: a coin ring doesn’t need to be ordered larger than your usual size. True to size is right.
- Measured by a jeweler: usually fast and free.
- Request a sizer with your order: choose “Request Ring Sizer” and we’ll mail you one at no cost, then finish your ring once you send us your size.
- Order a sizer first: measure at home, then place your order.
If a ring ever needs resizing, send it to us rather than a local jeweler. It’s free, and it’s done the way it was made.

The Four Starting Points
Four proven starting points. Each is built to the same standard — the difference is which one fits how you want to wear it.

Mercury Dime Drop Earrings
Two genuine silver Mercury Dimes, struck 1916–1945 and often called the most graceful portrait the Mint ever produced. Gently domed, polished and light enough for every day. Right for the gift where her ring size is a mystery.
175

Bullseye Pendant
A silver Mercury Dime set inside a copper Canadian Large Cent: two coins, two countries and two eras in one piece. Right for her if she loves something no one else is wearing.
225

Walking Liberty Ring
Lady Liberty striding toward the sunrise, one of America’s most celebrated coin designs, struck 1916–1947 and forged into a slender ring made for her hand. Right for an everyday piece she’ll wear for years.
425

Quarter Ounce Gold Eagle Ring
Struck before 1933, when gold coinage still circulated as everyday money. A stamped edge and a deeper tone mark it as older. Right for the buyer for whom rarity and pre-1933 history matter more than the current standard design.

What Quality Should Look Like
Not every coin ring on the market is built the same way, and the difference matters more than it might seem. Seven things to look for that separate a novelty ring from an heirloom.
The coin comes first.
A finished piece can only be as sharp as the coin it started from. Worn coins mean soft details and dull surfaces, so the standard worth looking for is About Uncirculated or better.
Forged, not cast.
Casting melts metal into a mold and erases the coin entirely. Forging reshapes the actual coin by hand, so the engraving, lettering and original design survive the journey.
Comfortable edges, details intact.
Edges should be smooth against skin and clothing, finished by hand without dulling the coin’s original design.
A true finish.
Polished should mean a genuine mirror shine. Patina should be an even, dark background with the raised details lifted bright.
Naturally hypoallergenic, free of nickel.
Genuine silver and gold coins contain none of the nickel that makes cheaper jewelry irritate skin, the earrings hang on sterling silver ear wires, and pendants hang from sterling silver necklaces.
Coin rings that meet all seven of these are a smaller, more specific category than "coin rings" as a whole.

Living With It
Genuine silver and gold need almost nothing day to day: no polishing schedule, no special storage. Take rings off before the gym or gardening, and take silver off before a pool or hot tub, since chlorine darkens it. Earrings and pendants are happiest stored apart from other jewelry, so nothing scratches the coin’s face.
Rings include free lifetime resizing and refinishing, so the piece she receives can look the way it did on day one for as long as she owns it.
