About the Coin

The Irish Florin was equivalent to two shillings and was part of Ireland’s first independent coinage after separation from Britain. These coins were designed by Percy Metcalfe, whose stylized animal motifs gave the series a distinct Celtic character. The Florin’s salmon — a symbol of wisdom and vitality in Irish folklore — was minted for only 15 years, making it both historically significant and visually striking.
